CHAPTER 39

BERNARD IS CONFUSED

Whose car is this in front of my house? Sharon had better not have company up in my place, I think as I hop out of the car. No shit! As I get closer to the front door, which is wide open, these two muthafuckas—Sharon and Nae—are rolling around on the floor like mud wrestlers. Hold up! Where the hell are Sharon’s clothes? That shit is kind of sexy, I think as I yank Nariah up off Sharon.

This woman ignores me and starts yelling at Sharon, who I’m assuming she knows only as Mahogany. That’s what she keeps referring to her as. Nariah asks her when she started liking men; then she goes on, accusing Sharon of chomping on her box. I don’t know if I am more turned on or upset right now, honestly. I would pay to see that shit.

“Sharon, how the fuck do you know Nariah?” I mutter. “When I asked you at Fridays if you knew anything, you denied it. Now, all of a sudden, you know Nariah and what her coochie tastes like?”

“Nard, it isn’t what you think!” Sharon cries.

“Well, my dear, you better get to explaining, because right now, I feel like snapping your muthafuckin’ neck.”

Sharon claims that she knows of Tae from high school and that she has known throughout her marriage to Braxton that he is in love with Tae, but she has been in denial. She said she used Nariah to get closer to Tae, but it didn’t work out. The only thing she wanted was to get her husband to come back to her.

“If that’s the case, what the fuck are you doing here with me?” I throw up my hands.

Through her tears, she replies, “Since I’ve been with you, you have shown me how a woman is supposed to be treated and that I have just been settling with Braxton.”

“Don’t hand me that bullshit! When I met you, I didn’t show you shit! You showed me you could suck a mean dick, so cut the bull and tell me the truth, Sharon!”

“Bernard, yes, you too started out as a vehicle to get me closer to Braxton, but after being with you, I’ve realized I don’t want him. My abandonment issues forced me to believe I needed him, being that I struggle with rejection. Why do you think I stayed with him for so long?”

“I have no fucking clue, Sharon. What I do know is you better come clean now, because if I find out you’ve been lying to me, you will regret the day you met me.”

“I am telling you the God’s honest truth, Bernard. I am not hiding anything else. I swear I’ve never met Darnell or seen him a day in my life, and the last time I saw Latavia in the flesh was in high school. You have to believe me,” she cries.

“I need a minute to clear my head,” I say, then walk out the door.
